Aizawa Hospital takes an active role in the design and implementation of its medical information systems, leading system deployments with a strong sense of ownership. To address the growing threat of ransomware and other cyberattacks, the hospital chose AppGuard, appreciating its clear and intuitive concept of “allowing only specific actions required by essential system services and processes, while blocking all others.”
As Japan’s northernmost emergency and critical care center, Nayoro City General Hospital has long been proactive in leveraging ICT technologies—for example, by building a network that connects medical institutions across northern Hokkaido and enabling remote triage for emergency patients. In recent years, following a series of ransomware incidents affecting hospitals throughout Japan, the hospital felt a strong sense of urgency that such threats were “by no means someone else’s problem.” Recognizing the importance of an approach that ensures medical services continue even if an intrusion occurs, the hospital chose AppGuard, deploying it on about 70 servers that support its hospital information system.
In recent years, several hospitals have been forced to suspend medical services for extended periods due to ransomware infections. In response to these incidents, Tsuyama Chuo Hospital took proactive steps to strengthen its preparedness—by developing contingency procedures, reinforcing endpoint security measures, and seeking ways to protect systems that are considered absolutely critical to hospital operations.
In recent years, ransomware attacks have repeatedly struck medical institutions across Japan. In the worst cases, hospitals were forced to suspend regular medical services for extended periods of time. Witnessing these serious incidents firsthand, Saitama Medical University Hospital decided to move away from its reliance on the “closed network” myth and explore a more zero-trust-oriented approach.
